Men’s Lacrosse
Ravens Lacrosse has a long history at Carleton University. The Carleton University Ravens Lacrosse Club was formed in 1986 to play in the first Ontario University Field Lacrosse Association spring tournament at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. The Ravens now compete in the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association (CUFLA). CUFLA is an emerging league and has many opportunities for young players. Playing at Carleton offers our players an opportunity to receive top quality education while playing high level lacrosse. The CUFLA league is unique in the sense that NLL players are allowed to play professional and play university sport together. More and more top quality players, including some NLL players, enter the league each year enhancing the competition. The Ravens have made the playoffs 16 of the last 21 years, winning the Division II Championship McDonald Cup twice and finishing 4th overall in 2000 and 3rd in 2004.
While winning is important to every competitive athlete; however we are concerned with the development of the student as a whole, and not solely the lacrosse player. We are committed to fostering a sense of discipline and dedication both on the field and in the classroom. We take satisfaction in seeing our players develop on the field and succeed in their academic pursuits. There has been a great heritage of successful lacrosse players at Carleton. Our Alumni include players who went on to professional lacrosse in the NLL: Jason Tasse (Ottawa Rebel), Shaydon Santos (San Jose Stealth), and Kevin Dostie (Calgary Roughnecks and Buffalo Bandits).
The club offers its members a seamless year of lacrosse; an opportunity to play Canada’s official national summer sport from September to April. Our preseason begins with a training camp one week before classes begin. We compete in several exhibition tournaments, playing local clubs and colleges during this time. We also play three extra divisional games and 6 regular divisional games. The team practices three evenings per week, with games on weekends. The regular season starts in September and concludes with the Baggataway Cup championship tournament in early November. The Club then organizes a year-end banquet, where we recognize the outstanding players on the team. On Friday nights from mid-November to March, the team hosts a non-contact league for the lacrosse community and Carleton student body in the Carleton Field house.
