About
Athletic Therapy is a profession which specializes in emergency care, prevention and care of musculoskeletal disorders (muscles, bones, and joints), especially as they relate to athletics and the pursuit of physical activity. In cooperation with physicians and other allied health personnel, the athletic therapist functions as an integral member of the athletic health care team at the university. Central to our philosophy is the prevention of sports injuries through the promotion of good physical conditioning, hazard free facilities, appropriate protective equipment, safe coaching techniques and fair play. When an injury occurs, proper immediate on-site management, followed by an early and intensive therapeutic reconditioning program is the key to our success.
The Clinic
The Athletic Therapy Clinic in located in the Athletic Complex across from the Gymnasium. The clinic only provides services to our Varsity athletes who play intercollegiate sports, as well as the club sports. The treatment hours are from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Monday until Friday. There is a staff member covering practices until 9:30 p.m. for emergency evaluation and acute treatments during the fall season. The winter treatment hours are from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, but a staff member is present during practice times until at least 8:30 p.m. depending on the day.
Services
A wide range of therapeutic techniques can be provided and many involve a combination of ultrasound, pain management, electrical muscle stimulation, therapeutic exercise, orthotics and/or braces.
