The Carleton University Ravens men’s and women’s water polo teams competed in the final day of play at the OUA Championships in Kingston Sunday.
The women took a convincing 16-2 win over the host Queen’s University Gaels this morning, sending them to the gold medal game against the University of Toronto Varsity Blues that afternoon.
Proving to be a tougher matchup against the Varsity Blues, the Ravens came out on top with a 9-7 win for the gold medal.
Carleton goalie Evelyn Marshall (Ottawa), who made a number of key saves in the win, was named the winner of the Roy Gunnell Trophy as tournament MVP. Marshall was also named to the tournament all-star squad, along with teammates Kaitlyn Sennema (Ottawa), Meaghan Broddy (Calgary) and Sarah McIlveen (Scarborough, Ont.).
The men suffered a one-point loss in the semifinal game, falling 11-10 to the University of Western Ontario Mustangs, resulting in the team competing in the bronze medal game against the McMaster University Marauders.
Despite a close matchup, the Ravens would fall to the Marauders 11-10.
After a strong weekend in the pool, Charles Bouwer (Ottawa) was named a tournament all-star.
