Ravens earn split at P.D. Ross Challenge
The Carleton University Ravens rowers earned a split this weekend at the annual P.D. Ross Challenge as the alumni crew came away victorious and the varsity team fell to the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees.
This dual (one-on-one) race is in its 59th edition, originating from a long time rivalry between University of Ottawa and McMaster University rowers. The regatta places male and female varsity rowers in the same boat against a mixed combination from uOttawa.
Carleton alumni remain undefeated since the alumni race’s inception three years ago. The Ravens varsity team held off uOttawa for about half of the 2km stretch but was taken by about three lengths over the last 800m and the Gee-Gees snapped a three-year Carleton winning streak with the victory.
The next competition for the rowers is this Sunday, Sept. 26, at Head of the Rideau. The regatta runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is Carleton’s only home competition for the Fall OUA racing circuit.
