Ravens rower captures gold at Head of the Rideau
First year Carleton University Ravens rower Matt Fournier (Ottawa) captured gold in the lightweight single race at the Head of the Rideau regatta on Sunday, finishing in a time of 20:41.0.
Most of the Ravens other crews finished in the middle of the pack. Of note were some third place finishes by Matt Schram (Niagara on the Lake, Ont.) and Darren Major (Port Robinson, Ont.) in the heavy men’s double and another by Sarah McGarry (Barrie, Ont.), Sarah McCue (Westboro, Ont.), Taryn Lloyd (Trail, BC), Kaitlin Martyniuk (Fonthill, Ont.) and Amanda Sherrington (Barrie, Ont.) in the varsity lightweight women’s coxed four event.
The Carleton rowers were without Kent Mamen (Chelsea, Que.), who was competing at the national trials. He finished 11th out of 50 of the nation’s top scullers.
The Ravens will travel to Peterborough, Ont. this weekend as they compete in the Head of the Trent regatta on Oct. 2.
