The Carleton University Ravens rowing team ended its season Saturday, Oct. 29 at the OUA Championships, hosted by Brock University.
The Ravens were amongst crews representing 14 universities across the province. The races were held on the Royal Canadian Henley Course, site of the largest North American regatta held in August.
Although a university regatta, the level of competition was extremely strong, with national team members, world championship gold medalists and Canadian Henley gold medallists competing in both the men’s and women’s categories.
The Ravens crew of Francina Jackson (Ottawa) and Victoria Ozimkowski (Ottawa) advanced to the finals and placed sixth in the lightweight double sculls, while their teammates Elise Damoiseaux (Point Edward, Ont.) and Lindsay Los (Pemberton, B.C.) advanced to the final of the heavy weight women’s double and placed fifth.
Los also finished fifth in the heavyweight women’s single, while Matthew Fournier (Ottawa) placed fourth in the lightweight men’s event.
Faced with the challenge of a small roster, the men collected seven points overall, while the women’s team finished with nine.
The Western Mustangs swept the title, placing first in both men’s and women’s standings. The host Brock Badgers finished second in men’s and third in women’s, while the Queen’s Gaels were third in women’s and second in men’s.
