Ed FournierHead CoachEd Fournier has been involved in the sport of rowing for over 27 years. In 1986, he started with the Montreal Rowing Club and that same year rowed with McGill’s varsity team. In 1988, he moved to Ottawa where he continued to row competitively until 2003. During his competitive career, Ed won several provincial and national titles rowing in the single, double and quad events. In 2007, Ed started coaching with the junior men’s development program at the Ottawa Rowing Club. In 2008, he became the junior men’s competitive coach of a small group of 10 athletes, which by 2011 had grown to 32 athletes. In early 2011 Ed was asked to coach the senior men’s program at the Ottawa Rowing Club and in the fall of that same year he accepted the Head Coach position at Carleton University while maintaining his responsibilities with the senior men at the Ottawa Rowing Club. Several of Ed’s athletes have moved on to higher levels of competition with five of his athletes earning positions on the Canadian Junior National CanAmMex development team and two earned positions with the Canadian National University team that competed at the FISU (International University Sports Federation) World Championships and one athlete competed on the the Canadian National U23 World Championship team. After strong performances at the Ontario University Championships in 2012 coach Fournier is looking to build on those successes for an even better season in 2013. Dr. Martin RowlandAssistant CoachMartin Rowland has been a member of the Ottawa Rowing Club since 2007, having started rowing in 1976 in the United Kingdom, including rowing for the University of Bath, as well as Medway Towns, Avon County and Des Moines Rowing Clubs. He was the first coach for the senior women’s development program and has coached the University of Ottawa women’s novice and varsity programs as well as the Carleton University varsity women’s program. He is the organizer for the Adult Rowing League coaches and has coached with the ORC Recreational Program. As well as being an RCA trained coach, Dr. Rowland is a pharmacist at the Queensway Carleton Hospital and has teaching responsibilities with the universities of Ottawa and Toronto as well as Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. |
Marie-Sophie DesaulniersAssistant CoachThis is Marie-Sophie Desaulniers’ second year as coach for the novice rowing team for Carleton and she has been coaching with the Ottawa Rowing club for the last five years. She specializes in teaching rowing technique to people who have never rowed before, in both sweeping and sculling. In addition to her involvement with the novice program, Marie Sophie will also be assisting with the junior varsity athletes. As an avid rower, she still finds the time to compete in the Masters category and has medaled at the World Master Championship in 2010 in the quad. In 2010, she also obtained her RCA coach certification. |
