Bedek named to FISU team
Ravens goalkeeper Rachel Bedek is one of two goalies selected to play for Team Canada at the International University Sports Federation (FISU) games in China. Bedek will join her teammates for training camp in Vancouver before heading to the FISU games from August 12-23, 2011.
“All of the coaching staff and players are overjoyed for Rachel,” says Alex McNutt, head coach of the Ravens women’s varsity team. “It is a huge honor to represent Canadian University Soccer and testament to her ability and the level she has been able to elevate her game to since joining the Ravens.”
Bedek’s selection comes after a stellar season as a Raven, which included team MVP honours and a first-team OUA all-star selection. The second year keeper was also offered a spot on the Women’s Ottawa Fury team for the summer.
“Rachel had a great season for the Ravens this year on the field and really stepped up off the field too, showing strong leadership qualities,” adds McNutt.
Participating on the world stage will help Bedek develop her game between the posts and is a great opportunity for the St. Thomas, Ontario native.
“Attending the FISU games will be a great life experience for Rachel and will definitely make her a stronger player,” says McNutt. “We are looking forward to seeing Rachel raise the bar even higher for herself with the Ravens in the coming years.”
